Well, I decided I like the cover so I went ahead and finished it today. Tried some new techniques in Photoshop with textures. I swear I learn something new in that program every time I use it.

Spooky! no.2 Cover Pencils

Drew this one yesterday under the influence of NyQuil. (battling a bad summer cold and an ear infection. Basically, I feel like shit... wasn't gonna let that stop me, though.)

What resulted is this "underdrawing" for the cover of Spooky! #2:

Once I'm a little more alert, I'll be better able to decide if I like it or not.

The lesson here might be: "Don't drowse and draw!" ;)

Spooky!

Initially, I was going to call this new anthology horror comic for HBC "Doorway to Midnight", but in the end, I opted for a simpler, one-word title, which is more in the vein of those great B&W horror comics magazines of the 60's and 70's.

So here is the result in clean pencils...

... and in blood-spattered color:

Rubber Ducky Strikes Again!

Another view of the bathing babe... Complete with custom-made faucet! ;)

R.I.P. Marilyn Chambers

Ironically, I was first exposed to sultry adult film star Marylin Chamber's work in the R-rated, David Cronenberg horror flick Rabid. It would be a few years before I got to see the now classic porn movie Behind the Green Door, which is considered to be the first "porno chic" film. The movie had quite an impact on me and my artwork at the time.

It's also worth noting that Marilyn was featured on a box of Ivory Snow detergent, holding a baby in her arms. A modeling assignment she got prior to filming Green Door. Pretty damn cool!

Marilyn was only 56 years old.
