My all-time favorite painter died yesterday at the age of 82. He was often imitated but never equaled. He will be missed...
Now that he's gone, I'm guessing it's only a matter of time until his greedy kids resume fighting over control of his work...
New York Times article
I still remember the first time I saw Frazetta's work. He's the reason I appreciate and collect fantasy art. Frazetta is the Rembrandt of his genre; his art is unequalled.
ReplyDeleteApparently his kids have reached an accomodation, but I agree, James: it's only a matter of time before they start another pissing contest. How disrespectful of the man as both an artist and their father. Instead of protecting and promulgating his legacy, they're squabbling over money.
Fortunately, Frazetta's art transcends such crudity, and will do so forever.
Well said my friend.
ReplyDeleteYou've happened to post here 4 paintings that I most adore - fab! If you'd included the painting "At the earth's core" you'd have my fave 5 right there.
ReplyDeleteHe was a master of light and texture, and he was loyal to how *he* saw things (women, especially). What a marvelous man.
I added "At the Earth's Core" just for you, Tracy (a Q-Man scan, no less) :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is "The Egyptian Queen" but the others I posted are very close behind. I'm especially fond of his revised version of "Cat Girl".
When I watched Painting with Fire, I was amazed at how down to Earth and humble Frank was, which made me admire him even more.
